What is RCS and how is it different from WhatsApp and SMS?

RCS (Rich Communication Services) is the native evolution of SMS. Unlike WhatsApp, it does not require users to install an app, as it works directly within Android’s default messaging app (Google Messages). Compared to SMS, it delivers a richer experience with images, videos, carousels, and buttons, while also displaying your company’s name and logo, providing much greater credibility.

Does RCS work on iPhone (iOS) or only on Android?

RCS is native to the Android ecosystem. However, the ecosystem is expanding to support the Universal Profile, increasing global compatibility. If the recipient has a device that does not yet support the technology or is without internet access, Zenvia uses Smart Fallback, automatically delivering the content via SMS to ensure your message is received.

How does sender verification (Verified Sender) work?

Unlike SMS, where messages are received from unknown numbers (shortcodes), RCS Business requires brand validation. When you contract the service through Zenvia, your company goes through a verification process with Google. This ensures your messages are delivered with a verification badge (checkmark), logo, and official name, eliminating fraud risks and increasing customer trust.

Is there a character or file size limit in RCS?

RCS offers far greater creative freedom than SMS. While SMS is limited to 160 characters, RCS allows text messages of up to 5,000 characters. It also supports high-resolution media files such as images, audio, videos, and PDFs, enabling the sharing of documents and complete product showcases.

Can I know if the customer has read my message?

Yes. RCS provides advanced metrics that are not available in traditional SMS. You can track delivery confirmations, read receipts, and interactions with buttons. These insights make it possible to measure real campaign engagement and run A/B tests with much greater accuracy.

Can RCS be integrated with chatbots and APIs?

Yes. Zenvia RCS can be used both for simple notifications through the no-code platform and for complex conversational journeys via API. You can integrate chatbots to automate customer service, send invoices, complete sales, and provide 24/7 support with suggested replies and quick-action buttons.
